Come to this session to learn about the different priority deadlines for college applications. This session will help you to determine what the right course of action is for your student. Other hot topics like demonstrated interest and what to do if you are put on a waitlist will also be discussed during this session.
Performing Arts Admission and Participation -
This presentation will review the admission process for college programs in the fine and performing arts. Audition and portfolio procedures will be addressed as well as what your child can do to stand out in the process.
Making the Most of the Campus Visit -
Visiting a college campus can be the most important aspect of selecting a college. After all the research, phone calls, emails, web-site surfing, and literature reading, it is time to experience the campus – live! Come learn how to set up a campus visit, what to do and look for on a campus visit, and the benefits of the campus visit from a spirited energetic admission representative who has organized many campuses visits for families.

Students with disabilities need to consider multiple factors in the college search process. Learn about the differences between services and accommodations at the college level and how to best prepare for the transition to college.

Attending a local community college can be a viable option for students to begin the post-secondary education. This session will focus on the opportunities that a community college can offer, specifically regarding the benefits of Oakton Community College which is the district community college for Glenbrook students! For many high school seniors, selecting the right college has as much to do with the size of the school as its location and programs. This program will highlight the differences between large and small campuses and provide insight into which one might be right for you.
Honors Programs -
Most colleges provide high achieving students (within their applicant pool) the opportunity to participate in honors programs. Honors programs allow students to explore content further, often synthesizing ideas with other works, writing critically, and learning through discussion based classrooms. Capstone projects during senior year frequently complete the curriculum. Come learn about the advantages of being apart of an honors program.

A lot of attention can be placed on the “college essay”. After all, that is essentially the last piece of your application of which you have control. Come learn from a person who has read countless essays on what impact your essay can have within the admission decision. Strategies and suggestions for writing and editing your essay will be shared as well as pointers for what makes an essay show both your writing prowess and your story.
Undecided, Undeclared, Undetermined! Where to start when I don't know what I what to do? -
With so many Colleges and Universities to choose from, it is hard to know where to start. Now add in the fact that you have no idea what you want to do just yet and… oh boy, it seems to get more overwhelming. Well we want to assure you that you are not alone. Actually, you are in the majority. Did you know 1/3 or 33% of college bound student start with little or no clue as to what they want to major in? Believe it or not, this is just fine and you CAN still graduate in 4 years. In this session our panel will help dispel myths and concerns of being an Undeclared, Undecided or Undetermined student as you enter college. We will help show you that you can still find your best college fit, even if you are unclear of a major, profession, or where your life path will lead you
